FOR
many years, Badria Atai Masoud, a mother of three sons and a candidate for the Kijini constituency representative seat under the Chama
Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, she has devoted herself to public service with
dedication, discipline, and accountability.
Though
this is her first time venturing into politics, Badria has emerged with
remarkable energy and determination, proving that true leadership requires a
sincere heart committed to serving the people.
A Journey of education and professional
growth
Badria Atai Masoud was born on April 10, 1990,
in Zanzibar, where her
journey in education began
in 1998 at Kajificheni Primary School, where she studied until 2004.
After
completing primary education, she enrolled at Benbella Secondary School in
2005, then moved to Laureate International School and graduated from Form Four
in 2008.
She
continued her secondary education at SOS Secondary School from 2009 to 2011
before enrolling at the Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) in 2011. There, she
earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication in 2014.
Studying
Mass Communication strengthened her passion for serving the community and
equipped her with the tools to advocate for transparency, accountability, and
citizen-centered governance values she continues to uphold as she steps into
political leadership.
Vision for development and gender equality
Badria
firmly believes that Zanzibar’s development cannot be achieved without women’s
participation. That’s why she champions the importance of women stepping into
leadership roles.
“When
women unite, we can change society. A good leader is not someone who desires
power, but someone who wants to bring quality services to their people,” she
emphasized.
Her
message has resonated deeply with kijini residents, many of whom now see her as
a beacon of new hope for rural women eager to break through barriers of fear such
as self-doubt, cultural expectations, and limited access to leadership
opportunities and achieve success
Career and public service experience
After
graduation, Badria began her career at Zanzibar Aviation and Travel Services
(ZAT) at Zanzibar Airport as an Operation Assistant marking the start of a
public service career characterized by integrity and hard work.
Within
a year, she transitioned to the public sector, accumulating over 11 years of
experience. She has worked in various institutions, including The Ministry of
State, President’s Office – Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service, and
Good Governance, Zanzibar Revenue Board (ZRB) and African Peer Review Mechanism
(APRM) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation
Her
skills in communication, policy analysis, and accountability have earned her
respect as one of the esteemed public servants.
“Working closely with various government
institutions taught me the importance of transparency, effective communication,
and accountability,” she explained.
Her
years of engaging with policy and governance issues gave her a clear
understanding of the challenges faced by her community and the mechanisms
required to address them.
This
insight, combined with her passion for service, inspired her to step into the
political arena, determined to bring about meaningful change for the people of
Kijini
Courage to enter politics
Badria
reflects, “I needed time to think and consult my family, including my husband
and my brother Masoud Attai, who encouraged me to move forward.”
“I
gained more strength after seeing how women can be part of major national
decisions. I realized it was my time to contribute to change,” she said with
hope.
Badria’s
brother Masoud Attai, shared heartfelt
reflections on her journey.
“What I
am proud of about my sister is that she’s a young woman who believes in herself
and stands firm in her decisions, especially when it comes to her dreams of
becoming a leader and serving her community.” said Masoud.
He
supported her emotionally, advised her on how to connect with the community,
and helped her build the confidence needed to enter politics.
His
belief in her journey played a major role in motivating Badria to take her
first steps toward leadership.
Hasna
Attai Masoud, badria’sister, spoke proudly about her young sister character and
leadership qualities.
“Badria
has had the star of a leader since she was a child” said Hasna.
She
described her as someone who is dedicated and always willing to give her all.
“She is someone who loves to commit herself
fully.” expressing her unwavering support, she said Hasna.
Today,
the community of Kijini is filled with inspiring stories about Badria. Some see
her as a “ women of dreams,” while
others view her as a sister opening doors of hope.
“This
is a woman who knows what she’s doing. Whenever she gets the chance, she greets
us and listens carefully,” said Juma Abdallah resident from Kijini.
Young
people are equally inspired. “Through her, we see that education is a sure
path. We want to be like her working in public service or even politics,” said
Maryam Juma a youth from Kijini studying
at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA).
Maryam
first heard about Badria when her name
came up as one of the candidates for the Kijini representative seat for their
home village.
Since
then, Maryam has been following her journey and feels encouraged by the way
Badria represents ambition, confidence, and the power of education.
Women
in Kijini consider her their shield. “Badria is a role model for women.
Although this is her first political endeavor, she always motivates us and
shows her passion for development and how she plans to transform Kijini,” said
Mwajuma Khatib from the same community.
